Azikiwe Mohammed (b. 1983, New York, NY) is a crafter who builds physical spaces that include Blackness and the stories of the people of this land. Sometimes that land is physical, and other times it lives in our bodies. These attempts at land shapings have taken place nationally and internationally at venues including Canada Gallery, MoMa PS1, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Art Institute of Chicago among many others. He is an alumnus of Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, New York and Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey. Mohammed lives in New York City and has his studio at Project for Empty Space.

Food operates as a living practice of tradition, memory, and cultural continuity in Newark. Across communities, daily meals and celebrations are shaped by holidays, birthdays, religious observances, and everyday acts of care that connect generations through shared recipes, preparation, and the family table. Family-style dining, home cooking, and communal dishes function as active expressions of belonging, inheritance, and collective care.
This installation draws from contemporary domestic life and community exchange: table settings, serving objects, family photographs, handwritten and digitally shared recipes, and symbolic foods circulating across neighborhoods and social networks. These materials show how food traditions are maintained, adapted, and reimagined in Newark.
