In Newark, sound acts as both memory and connection, moving through storefront speakers, rehearsal spaces, sidewalks, churches, and recording studios. It lives in vinyl records, instrument cases, repair shops, and the exchange of secondhand equipment between musicians, collectors, and neighbors.
Music shops, record stores, instrument retailers, and repair spaces serve as living archives of the city ís creative culture. They preserve not only objects, but also traditions of listening, learning, improvisation, and community exchange. These spaces, and this installation reflect a culture of care where instruments are repaired instead of thrown away, records are rediscovered, and musical histories stay active through everyday use.
