Monet Sheard is a muralist whose work explores perception, nature, embodiment, feelings of warmth, representation and selfhood through vivid color and deeply observed imagery. Drawn to faces, landscapes, geometry, and everyday moments, she creates emotionally resonant works that balance realism with expressive depth. Working across mediums including oil paint and plaster, her practice continues to evolve through public-facing and community-centered art. 

Through murals and installations, Monet transforms urban space into sites of connection and recognition. In this installation, her visual language reflects Newark’s culture of movement, recreation, and collective wellness—where sport, community, and shared public life intersect.

In Newark, recreation is more than physical activity—it is a source of connection, expression, discipline, and collective care. Gyms, training spaces, community leagues, and wellness centers form a local network where movement fosters confidence, resilience, and intergenerational connection.

Drawing from the visual language of athletics—balls, nets, jerseys, cones, trophies, and gestures of motion—the storefront becomes a space animated by rhythm, teamwork, and civic pride. By highlighting recreation and wellness spaces, the project positions them as essential to Newark, where community identity is shaped through play, practice, and participation.
